LOS ANGELES - An record 10 million voters turned out to vote Tuesday in California's recall election. When the dust had settled, the voters had turfed out Democratic Gov. Gray Davis and elected Republican movie star Arnold Schwarzenegger to replace him.
TV network projections released just after the polls closed at 11 p.m. ET, predicted Davis' ouster and the election of one of the world's best known film stars. CNN said its state-wide exit polling showed Schwarzenegger winning "by a comfortable margin."
Later results confirmed the exit polls.
