Quick action by passengers and crew is being credited for averting a potential tragedy in the skies over the Atlantic Saturday.
An American Airlines jet was en route from Paris to Miami.
The plane was about 90 minutes from the US coast when a flight attendant smelled smoke.
On investigation, she found a passenger trying to light what appeared to be a fuse attached to a shoe.
