Riot police and protesters clashed as the Summit of the Americas was about to get under way Friday, after a small group of demonstrators yanked down part of a security fence.
Thick clouds of tear gas filled the air, sending some people scurrying while others stood their ground accusing security forces of overreacting. Injuries and arrests Several protesters and at least five police officers were injured. More than 100 people were arrested. Late Friday night more crowds had gathered and police once again fired tear gas to keep them away from the wall.
