MOSCOW - The Russian Navy has apparently failed in its first attempt to rescue crew members of the submarine, Kursk. The Itar-Tass news service says a second attempt is now underway. Senior naval officials are not optimistic.
The submarine has 116 people on board.
Defence officials say they don't know how much air there is in the sub. They also fear that water is getting in.
