Michael Jordan says goodbye

CHICAGO - Michael Jordan has left basketball and entered the realm of legend.

In a news conference on Wednesday announcing his retirement, Jordan's old number – 23 – was raised to the rafters above the Chicago basketball court that had been the scene of so many stunning plays.

Jordan, in a quiet statement, said "I tried to be the best basketball player I could be."
