TORONTO - A new Canadian firearms registration law came into effect Tuesday. Under the law, all gun owners must be licensed by the beginning of 2001, and all guns must be registered by 2003.
The law encountered fierce opposition from gun owners across the country. The government of Alberta has said the law is unconstitutional. Ontario's Premier Mike Harris is also opposed to the law.
