About 20 centimetres of fresh snow fell on the downhill ski course in Japan, and that's seen as another good omen for the next two weeks of Olympic events.
The 18th Winter Olympic Games got underway in Nagano Saturday. There are 2,400 athletes attending, including a contingent from Canada that officials are calling our best shot ever at a record medal count.
Freestyle skier and reigning world champion Jean-Luc Brassard led his fellow Canadian athletes into the Olympic Stadium Friday night. Canada has sent 150 athletes to the games. They are expected to surpass the record win of 13 medals at the 1994 games in Norway.
